Synopsis

-

Short film about moving to a bigger city and the impact this has had on my life.

The Film

-

Brussels-The Drugs I needed

This film was made in a period of my life where I had just moved from Ostend to Brussels. The sudden change in decor opened up an entirely different world for me. Everything was suddenly more tasteful, vivid & injected with life. I wanted to share the passion & energy I felt during that time and make a contribution to the very city that evoked all of this.

The Videography

-

Brussels-The Drugs I needed

My first camera, an old small canon G7X mark II , was the camera used for the entire movie. The small size made it perfect for the run and gun kind of shooting that I went for. I wanted to capture authentic moments around Brussels so a smaller camera helped me not to be too obvious and be sure not to make people uncomfortable when filming them. I’ve used the Gorilla tripod mainly for making time lapses.

A new pair of glasses

Just like putting on some new glasses I started to see the world differently.

Memories

The notebook was used as a portal to the memories I’ve made in Brussels. More practically it was used to link all the shots together.

Special effects

The special effects used to enhance the story. For example here the “sand effect” was used to show the freedom I felt to finally break free from my elderly home and start living my own life.

People

One of my goals with this video was to show authentic moments in Brussels without setting up anything. The people I was able to capture really make the video come alive and breathes life into it.
